Don't buy one which is too big
Choose your wood stove to fit the room to be heated. You will obtain better results by leaving your stove burning permanently at its nominal power. If your wood stove is too large, it will run too often at a capacity of combustion too low. An incomplete combustion is harmful for your fireplace and increases the risk of chimney fire through soot condensation.
The correct fuel
The wood intended for your fireplace or stove must be stored, preferably after having been cut, for at least two years in a dry well-ventilated place. Damp wood prevents you from using all of the energy from your wood. Use dry wood and you will see that you will burn less. Good combustion is shown by white or clear smoke. To light the fire, use small wood preferably.
The fire which burns everything does not exist Wood stoves and fireplaces are not suitable for burning everything. Although many things burn, it is bad for your health and for the environment to burn any old thing in your fireplace or stove. You should not burn plastic, wood with glue residues or any other household rubbish in your fireplace or stove. They may release carcinogenic substances during combustion.
Let your fire go out by itself If you wish to put your fire out because you're going to bed or to do something else, let your fire go out by itself. If you have an open fire, leave the valve of the chimney fully open. Later put a fireguard or close the fireplace or stove in such a way that no sparks can fly out. Ventilate your room well.
VentilationSee that it is properly ventilated to obtain optimum combustion. It is excellent for output and good for your health. Go out of your house to ensure that combustion is good. If white or colourless smoke comes out of the chimney then combustion is good.
Chimney
Have your chimney swept at least once a year. If you burn wood intensively, you must have the chimney swept twice a year: once in summer and once at the beginning of the year. We invite you to take all of the necessary precautions.
